“Menter Iaith Patagonia”

Menter Iaith Patagonia was begun in April 2008 in order to support the Welsh Teaching Project in Patagonia.  British Council Cymru agreed to fund the plan to send 2 Menter workers for a year to Patagonia.  The Nos Da company from Caerdydd also contributed. The feeling was that there was aneed for more social occasions in order for the language to be used outside the classroom.

What are the aims?

  • Give social possibilities for use of the language.
  • Offer the chance to individuals to work as volunteers in Chubut with the Welsh Teaching Project and Menter Iaith.
  • Create opportunities to reinforce the use of the language.

For 11 years people have worked as Menter Iaith officers, working closely with the teachers who are working for the Teaching Project (linc yma ar y restr athrawon/gwirfoddolwyr, staff Menter Patagonia).  Unfortunately, cuts have been made and and the offical project for cafwyd toriadau Menter Patagonia came to an end under the British Council Cymru in 2019 although teachers are still expected to organise events with the community as part of their role. Events are advertised on social media:

Cymdeithas Cymru – Ariannin intends to employ an officer to work in Patagonia during 2025 which will be an opportunity to create a wdie variety of activities, linguistic, cultural and practical with children, young people and adults through the medium of Welsh in the communities.   [dolen/linc yma at y wybodaeth]
